Business Development Manager

Cheryl Cowell

Business Development Manager

Cheryl's career in complex health and social care spans over 20 years, starting in forensic secure services. Cheryl developed a passion for neurological rehabilitation in 2010 when she joined a small provider with significant investment to grow both organically and via mergers/acquisitions. During her employment, she was fundamental to the development of new services in Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Yorkshire, and the Midlands.

Throughout her career, Cheryl has supported the development of Level 2b neuro rehab, complex nursing, residential, and supported living services nationally and is a huge advocate of collaborative working. Cheryl has worked for several neurological rehab providers, including St Andrew's Healthcare (neuropsychiatric services) and The Oakleaf Group, where she launched the stroke pathway. Cheryl went on to develop her own healthcare consultancy business, where she assisted private providers in collaborating with their NHS counterparts.

Cheryl has developed trusted relationships with a range of stakeholders across Commissioning Support Units, Integrated Care Boards, Foundation Trusts, and Local Authorities. When it comes to care, Cheryl endorses a “quality first” mindset and believes that adopting a person-centred, collaborative approach to rehabilitation is fundamental to delivering high-quality care and maximising outcomes.

Cheryl's father suffered a sudden onset brain injury in 2014, which left him unable to walk or talk and severely cognitively impaired for his surviving nine years. This provided Cheryl with valuable insight into the anguish experienced by families when supporting a loved one with a range of complex needs.

In her spare time, Cheryl is a volunteer fundraiser for a care farm providing work opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and autism in a safe and therapeutic environment.
