A group of leading local medics donned hardhats and took up their shovels to break ground on the site of Hamberley Neurocare's new state of the art neurological rehabilitation centre in Southampton.
Hamberley Neurocare’s newest neurorehabilitation centre, in Nursling, will be ideally located to support the nearby University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust and the University of Southampton.
When completed it will be one of the most advanced neurological rehabilitation services in the South of England.
In attendance for the groundbreaking ceremony were John Austin, Managing Director, Hamberley Developments, Dr Andy Eynon, Consultant in Neurosciences Intensive Care at University Hospital Southampton, Annette Purkiss, Head of Therapies, University Hospitals Southampton, Michelle Kudhail, Director of Specialist Services at Hamberley Care Homes & Hamberley Neurocare, Stuart Fraser, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Winchester, Andy Stevenson, Construction Director, Highwood and Alan Taylor, Senior Design Coordinator, Highwood.
Hamberley Neurocare Southampton is being built by Highwood Construction for the award-winning healthcare developer Hamberley Development.
Michelle Kudhail, Director of Specialist Services for Hamberley Neurocare, said that the Hamberley Neurocare centre would set a new standard for neurological rehabilitation services in the region.

This project has been a long-time in the making and so it’s wonderful to see all of our local partners here today for this important milestone. Complex care services are becoming more and more advanced and so it is vital that the best environment exists to deliver these life-enhancing services – Hamberley Neurocare Southampton will do just that.”
Dr Andy Eynon, Consultant in Neurosciences Intensive Care at Wessex Neurological Centre said:
“For many years I have been determined to help bring a truly leading-edge neurological rehabilitation service to Southampton so it’s wonderful to be here today putting the first spade in the ground. Hamberley Neurocare will change the lives of many many people who will come to use its services, and that is something to be very proud of. I look forward to seeing the doors open once all the work is complete!”
The bespoke neurological rehabilitation facility will feature physiotherapy and medical consulting rooms together with a therapy gym fitted with state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment including robotics and other technology assisted equipment. The centre also includes lounges, dining rooms, cinema, a café bar and a self-contained step-down apartment.
Hamberley Neurocare Southampton will provide rehabilitation care, long-term care, respite and palliative care for people with brain and spinal injuries as well as complex neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease.
